Log Book for February 21, 2003
General Engineering Report
Jean Lagarde Reporting

Generator/Electricity - measured at 0600 hrs: Voltage at 252 vac. Amperage is close to 0 amp. Frequency 61 Hertz and DC volts is at 15 vdc.

Propane Tanks - measured at 0600 hrs: #1 tank (North side) is at 81%. #2 tank (South side) is at 78%. The furnace tank is at 83%. The Hobbs meter is at 2426.3.

Water: The water tank was refilled from 20 to 65 gallons at 1220 hrs. (I guess Amaury was testing the limit with the new tank cover.)

Additional Activities: Akcnowledge that you are looking into the ATV #1 issue and will let us know. The only other major activity today was the investigation of the greenhab problems, reported in the greenhab report and MarsComm. Steve Jordan has started to hunt for parts to repair the wheels holding the outer doors.

MarsComm issues: I keep on finding many bugs and issues, but that was in part the point of putting it through its paces. The biggest issues have to do with the communication between the two stations; some data doesn't get transferred or gets transferred incorrectly. I have "fixed" these errors in part by copying of fixing by hand and will try to continue to do so from home until the end of the rotation, as well as actually fixing the bugs. I knew that the system was mostly untested and that this would be a baptism by fire. I am mostly interested at this point in getting feedback on the usefullness of the features, whether they are performed in code or by me cheating in the background. Rocky has a laptop and will be at the hab for the duration of the rotation, so I have installed the hab's MarsComm on it. It has been running from there today.

We received the new printer cartridges, and the Lexmark printer works fine with them, thanks. We have put the old ones in a ziplock bag but haven't tried any procedure to resuscitate them. Note that we have connected the printer to the observatory PC and are sharing on the network it through there.
