Log Book for February 28, 2005
Engineering Report - Abbreviated
Anthony Francis Reporting
Like the previous day's report, the February 28th Engineering report will be slightly delayed, this time because we spent the day tackling issues mentioned in the last report.. A full Engineering report will be submitted as soon as possible. However, two urgent issues require attention:
- Potable water supply tank detached from truck hitch and needs repair
- GreenHab apparently still not processing waste water
Both of these issues need to be resolved as soon as possible, and while we can deconstruct the system and put it back together to make it work, it would be preferable to get mission support input before doing so.
Raw Data
Tasks Performed:
- Painting the front stairs
- Checking interior supplies
- Debugging greenHab issue
- Getting new potable water supply
- Getting new gasoline supply
Exterior Visual Inspection:
- Power Plant: no visible issues
- Hab: no visible problems. many tools remain around after refit
- Radio telescope: no visible issues
- ATVs: no visible issues
Power System: no visible issues
- China Special Generator: 1739.06
- Diesel: less than 3/4ths
- Propane: approximately 71%
Water System Readings: several visible issues
- External Supply Tank: was 1/8th tank, now refilled
- Internal Supply Tank: original reading 26 gallons, approximately 6 gallons used, now at 20 gallons - pump not tested today because of previous pumping issues
- Holding Tank: approximately 2/3 tank, more than yesterday
- Trickle Tanks: no water flowing into or out of trickle tanks
- AQ2: observed excessive foam near outflow valve and a silvery turbulence under bubble pipe
- AQ5: down to approximately 1/10th tank
- Toilet Supply Tank: approximately 1/2
Potable Water Supply:
- Refill of the main tank began burping around the 10% supply mark
- Scheduled shipment of water could not be delivered and we had to pick it up
- During installation of the refilled water tank the water tank trailer partially detached from the Mars Society truck, necessitating repairs.
GreenHab Water Filtration:
- GreenHab is still not getting adequate water.
- AQ2 shows signs of foam
- AQ5 is extremely low:
- We could not get the pump between the greywater tank and the GreenHab to function. The greywater tank continues to fill whereas the AQ5 continues to drop. Pump or line problem?
