Log Book for March 15, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Shannon Rupert Reporting
Today was the fourth day at MDRS for the Phase II crew.
EVA: Amber, Veronica and Debra went on an EVA to ground truth one of the Red Flyer images and further explore the area imaged by the ARV.
Crew Physical Status: The crew is in good spirits and overall good health. Our one sick crewmember is still sick but hanging in there.
Brief Narrative of Mission Results: We went into sim at 12:30 pm. We have decided to complete a high fidelity three-day sim. One of the ARV images was ground truthed. Veronica continued work on her concretions and Lindsay began work on some soil moisture research begun by Crew 21. Debra continued to pepper us with questions.
Plans for Tomorrow: We will conduct an EVA to do SEMS at a site imaged by the ARV and studied by the ExAlpha crew.
Report Transmission Schedule: All reports will be in by 10pm MST. Reports to expect tonight:
- Commander's Check-in
- Commander's Log
- Engineering Report
- Journalist's Report
- Two Geology Reports
- EVA Report
Photos will be uploaded as normal.
Maintenance: We have two running ATVs but only one working battery between them. The third ATV has the battery connector stripped due to corrosion but although it appears to have a charge, the ATV will not start and since we haven't gotten the battery out yet, we can't diagnose the problem. We have decided to use the PEV Aonia on our EVAs.
Inventory: We need a new battery charger and more Velcro strips.
Miscellaneous: Despite predicted rain, the weather remains beautiful but cold. The EVA team found ice on the surface of analog Mars.
Support Requested: None at this time.
