Log Book for April 7, 2005
Commander's Check-In
Bill Clancey Reporting

Weather: clear, becoming partly cloudy, low 2.8C (37F), high 23.9C (75F), intense sun becoming filtered by high clouds, winds starting at 1500h

Crew Physical Status: somewhat warm from the dry hot winds

Brief Narrative of Today's Results: Continued debugging communications between Boudreaux and the agent system. Because of various factors beyond our control (and wishes), we were unable to run an Operational Readiness Test at Ames, as we did last year. The result is that the integration of components is occurring now. We decided at 1100h to proceed with an astronaut EVA without Boudreaux (rather than the converse, Boudreaux scouting, without the astronauts). We revised a Pooh's Corner EVA plan from last year; but this took several hours. From 1430h to after 1500h, we assembled the backpacks, helmets, GPS, biosensors, radios, and started up all of the agent software. We found that one of the backpacks has a wireless device of an earlier model, which (as configured) is incompatible with the base station we are using this year. We then eventually found bugs in GPS (under the condition of not having Boudreaux) and biosensor processing (stemming from a complete restructuring of the system during the winter). So although disappointed that the EVA had to be scrubbed, we fully understood that we had performed as well as we could.

The schedule was revised for the EVA: 0900h briefing; 1800h meeting to plan the school visit tomorrow morning and plan the sequence for further tests.

EVA: Suit-up and initialization tests.

Report Transmission Schedule: CDR journal

Maintenance: Frank Schubert has arrived and will take over these tasks. Nothing new to report.

Inventory: Nothing to report.

Plans for Tomorrow: School visit, Boudreaux scouting, wireless testing, further integration testing of full system prior to EVA.

Miscellaneous: We will be glad for cooler weather.

Support Requested: None required.
