Log Book for April 26, 2006
Engineering Report
Maarten Sierhuis Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

Casper: not used

Wendy Hobbs Meter: 3491.0 hrs (+22.5 hrs since yesterday)
Voltage: 120 VAC
Frequency: 62 Hz
Oil Level: 7/8
Oil Pressure: 30 PSI
Water Drained: yes
Notes/Comments: Wendy's status check started at 14:14 and ended at 14:25

Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running?

20:08 - 26.8 - 08 - 19 - on - float

Notes/Comments: Problem with Power System today. At arround 13:00 today the inverter kept switching back and forth between batteries and generator supplying power to the hab. The most likely diagnosis is that we were drawing too much power for the generator and it therefore switched over to the batteries until the generator was back to full capacity, which made the inverter switch back to the generator again. This switching back and forth kept going on for about 30 mins. We reduced the load in the hab, adjusted the frequency generated by the generator and things went back to normal. It took the generator 30 mins to recharge the batteries, after the problem had corrected itself. All in all, the system seemed to have behaved correctly, due to the fact that we were drawing a lot of current.

Fuel Status (as of 20:18):

Diesel: Approximate Reading - 5/8

Propane Tank: Approximate Reading - 45% (450 gallons = 1703.4 L)

Gasoline: Quantity Remaining - 16 gallons = 60.6 L (no change since yesterday)

Oil:
GenSet Quantity: 4 quarts (+3 quarts since April 24, 2006)
ATV Quantity: 5 quarts (-11 quarts since April 24, 2006)
V'ger Quantity: 12 quarts (+6 quarts since April 24, 2006)

Water Status:

Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 380 gallons = 1438.5 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 11.5 cm from the base
Potable Water Meter Reading: 10070.5 gallons = 38120.9 L (+60.1 gallons since yesterday)
Out to Toilet Meter Reading: 2684.1 gallons = 10160.4 L (+44.1 gallons since yesterday)
In to GreenHab Meter Reading: 15489.7 gallons = 58634.7 L (+222.8 gallons since yesterday)
Flushes: 10
Showers: 4
Sponge Baths: 0
Notes/Comments: The In to Greenhab value is again >60 (the expected max), namely 266. However, the grey water holding tank is almost filled to the top (we're afraid it will overflow soon). However, our daily water consumption only seem to be around 60 Gallons. All the greenhab tanks (1-5) are full. The pump is working correctly (we only shook it up today) We are uncertain about the state of the system at this moment. We are planning on minimizing our water consumption to reduce the grey water holding tank level. If it is the meter that is broken, where would a spare meter be? Please advise.

GreenHab:

  • TST Level: 2/3 full
  • Tank #5 Level: Full
    Crops Watered: yes
    Crop Condition:
  • Plants in Poor Health: 4 Lettuce
  • Plants in Good Health: 1 Tomatoes, 1 Nasturtium, 2 Mint, 1 Peas , 1 Unknown, 1 Chives
