Log Book for March 16, 2003
Commander's Report
David Fuller Reporting

Crew 15 arrived at the Hab on the evening of 15 March 2003 after nursing the big blue pickup truck from SLC. The Michigan crew briefed us on the operation of the Everest analog rover, and the remaining Crew 14 gave briefings on Hab operation.

The next morning, 16 March, we were shown how to dump and refill the holding and fuel tanks on Everest. We were also briefed on more Hab systems, including the failed Generac generator.

After Crew 14 left, the rest of the day was spent moving into the Hab and familiarizing ourselves with Hab systems. Don Foutz came by to install an IBM laptop to serve as the satellite interface to the Hab network. He also inspected the Generac to determine the extent of the damage. He suggested trailoring it to Grand Junction to expedite the repair. Pictures were sent to Robert Zubrin and Paul Graham.

We ran some tests to make sure that the backup generator would not support the Incinolet. About 2 minutes after starting the Incinolet, one the breakers on the generator popped, so we abandoned that line of inquiry.

We transferred about 30 gallons of water into the Hab water tank. We refilled the backup generator gas tank once at 14:00, and added a small amount of oil to bring the level up to the indicated point.

We will be using power from the Everest rover to supplement the backup generator.
