Log Book for March 8, 2007
Engineering Report
Artemis & Waller Reporting
Generator/Electricity:
Casper: not used
Wendy Hobbs Meter: 2907.8 hrs (+23.9 hrs since yesterday)
Voltage: 122 VAC
Frequency: 60 Hz
Oil Level: 7/8
Oil Pressure: 40 PSI
Water Drained: no
Xantrex Inverter/Dynasty Batteries:
Time - Voltage (Temp Comp) - Load - Temp - Generator Running
20.00 - 26.7 - VDC - 15 - 13C - Yes
Notes/Comments: today I worked through the Xantrex inverter to find the reason why the batteries were not charging. I turned the generator off at 11.45 which caused a total black out at the Hab. After consultation with Paul and reporting on the readout of the inverter panel, I did a hard reset (reboot) of the whole system at 17.30. To do so I put the switch at the generator shed in Main Engineering on 'Main' which cuts the power flowing in to the Hab. The Hab did not loose power at that and the inverter panel gave 24.5 for power coming from the batteries, which meant they were fully charged. Nevertheless I did reboot the system by throwing the DC switch, waiting for everything to go black in the Hab and then throwing the DC switch to 'ON' again. after a minute or so we had power in the Hab again. I walked back to Main Engineering and put the switch at the generator shed to 'aux' again.
Fuel Status (as of 19:06):
Diesel: Approximate Reading: 7/8
Propane Tank: Approximate Reading: 55% (550 gallons = 2082.0 L)
Gasoline Quantity Remaining: 86 gallons = 325.5 L (no change since yesterday)
Notes/Comments: no ATVs used today, but the ATV-3 was collected by Paul to be repaired. The carburator was pulled from this ATV to use on ATV-2 to work on the problem of not attaining full speed.
Oil Status:
GenSet Quantity: 1 quart (-1 quarts since yesterday)
ATV Quantity: 4 quarts (no change since yesterday)
V'ger Quantity: 24 quarts (no change since yesterday)
Notes/Comments: we are nearly out of the synthetic oil for the Generator. I do not believe i should mix that with the natural oil with the same grade (5W 30) that is their in some quantity.
Water Status:
Outside Potable Water Tank Level: 330 gallons = 1249.2 L
Trailer Potable Water Tank Level: 50 cm from the base
Potable Water Meter Reading: 20722.4 gallons = 78442.6 L (+90.5 gallons since yesterday)
Out to Toilet Meter Reading: 6692.4 gallons = 25333.4 L (+27.5 gallons since yesterday)
In to GreenHab Meter Reading: 7705.4 gallons = 29168.0 L (no change since yesterday)
Dishwasher Runs: 0
Notes/Comments: Grant did rig up the hose going into the internal watertank. we are syphoning the trailer tank into the external watertank with a hose between the both of them 'automatically'. Another rig up by Grant, which saves us time and trouble. He fixed it to the ceiling and, more importantly, he put a clamp on the hose inside the lid of the internal watertank to prevent it from falling out. And he put a clamp on the hose, just above the lid of the internal watertank to prevent the hose from sticking to deep into the internal watertank. This solution prevents the water from backflowing into the external watertank.
GreenHab:
Status: The grey water tank was pumped out to the GreenHab twice today.
Crops Watered: yes
Crop Condition: Iahu-Anat repotted the plants. She also pruned the water hyacints. And she sprayed Neem Oil especially on the myriad of aphids in AT2. AT1 was sprayed but did not need so much as the aphids there were not as present as in AT2.
Transportation:
V'ger Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: good
Odometer: 184310 miles (no change since yesterday)
Kawasaki ATV-1 Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV-2 Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: good
Kawasaki ATV-3 Used: no
Oil Checked: no
Tire Status: taken away
Notes/Comments: V'ger is still in SLC.
Miscellaneous Infrastructure:
HVAC: nothing to report
Mars Surface Suits: Stacy Sklar and Grant Waller used suits-5 and and PLSS-2 with Helmet-2 and suit-3 and PLSS-3 and helmet-1
Computers/Networking Infrastructure: internet is working fine
