Kyoichi Sasazawa Reporting

Introduction: Bob, Louise and I took an EVA returning to the northern stream field 2.5km to the north. There we collected many fossil samples.

Geological Description: Outcrops along the stream show a transition of late Jurassic Morrison Formation to Cretaceous Dakota Formation. Dakota Formation unconformably overlies Morrison Formation.

Sample List:
  • Locality: UTM 0517.08E 4253.28N (waypoint 106)
Rock type: Conglomerate, pebble size 0.2-1.5cm, gray silt matrix
    Gryphaeidae ("devils' toenail" oyster)
    unidentified microfossils

  • Locality: UTM 0517.40E 4253.87N
Rock type: Conglomerate, pebble size 0.2-1.5cm, gray silt matrix
    Gryphaeidae

  • Locality: UTM 0517.81E 4253.43N (waypoint 105)
    Rock type: Black Shale
