Hab Generator Report

Main generator "China Special" was refueled twice as per schedule. The refueling will take place @ 11 pm tonight. Today we changed the oil on it as well - we have been instructed to change oil once in two days.

We plan to test run the back-up generator "Lil' Genny" tomorrow.

Generator Fuel Status: The trailer behind the Hab has 2 red drums (Designated diesel containers). One of the drums is empty. We are pumping the diesel from the 2nd one. There is no indicator on the drums that can tell us how much fuel is in there. Our crew started using the 2nd drum from scratch - so here is our rough estimate.

Assumptions:
Drum Capacity = 50 gallons
Yellow Cans (used as intermediate containers to transfer diesel from the drum to the generator) = 5 gallons

Status:
Diesel used (day 1 + 2) = 22.5 gallons
Diesel left (at the end of day 2) = 27.5 gallons

Basis of Estimate:
[0.75 x 5] gallon per 8 hour run x 6 runs (by end of day 2) = 22.5 gallons

Hab Water Report: We had a minor mishap with the water this morning which we brought under control pretty quickly. We switched on the pump this morning around 7 am. And it filled up very quickly (sooner than yesterday as per our estimate) and overflowed. This resulted in water dripping into the crew quarter next to the commander's quarter. We switched off the pump right away, opened the taps in the kitchen, collected the dripping water in bowls, and removed all of the bedding and personal articles from the crew quarters. (We wiped them and dried them in the sun!).

How we plan to tackle the issue. Tomorrow we will try to watch the water storage drum and accurately time the filling of the drum and mark the outside appropriately.

Please Note: There are markings on the outside of the water storage drum - but we are not quite sure what they mean. We are guessing that the current markings indicate the number of minutes it takes for the corresponding water levels.

Water used today as of 8 pm = 20 gallons (cooking + toilet + wash basin)

Side Note: No one took showers. And dinner is still being cooked. So dishes are yet to be cleaned for the night. So probably we will use another 5 gallons or so before we retire for the night.

Water left in the main drum outside on the trailer as of 8 pm = 22 gallons
