Log Book for March 19, 2004
Commander's Check-In
Reece Lumsden Reporting

Crew Status: The crew are tired but they are in high spirits.

Daily Recap: Today we entered the second of our three days in full simulation conditions.

Today two EVAs were conducted:

The morning EVA, conducted by Jamon, Richard and Edwin focussed on the deployment of the prototype rover that had been tested previously on another EVA. The site chosen was based on the EVA conducted by Jamon and Richard the day before.

The afternoon EVA involved Richard, Edwin and Reece. The goal of this EVA was to use the ATVs to drive out to a remote predetermined site and plant some seeds there. The purpose being to see if they will grow in the "Martian soil" in this location.

The crew continued to clean up the hab by rationalising equipment piles in various areas. They also took time out to complete some of the Personality surveys forwarded to them through Mission Support.

As with yesterday, we again ran into problems with the generators. We are now using the main generator, after spending some time figuring out how to get it started this evening.

Unfortunatley, as the power at the hab was out from this evening until around 1200, we were unable to get reports in on time. Therefore, the reports will be in for tomorrow.

Tomorrow's Plan: We plan to conduct an all female EVA tomorrow at the suggestion of Susmita to see how the inter-crew dynamics differ. We will also continue to rationalize the hab equipment piles.

Daily Reports: The standard reports will be in after time tomorrow. These are:
  1. Commander's Check In (this report) -- Reece Lumsden
  2. Commander's Log -- Reece Lumsden
  3. Engineering Report -- Susmita Mohanty
  4. GreenHab Report -- Richard Humphrey
