Executive Officer's Report
Richard Humphreys Reporting
Having found what we believe to be Cougar tracks at the dead end point near the river at the end of the ATV tracks, designated as Lowell Highway, I found it interesting to go back into the operations manual to see the Mission Control advice. A bit disconcerting was the advice on how to deal with Snakes, Scorpions (2 of which have been located inside the Hab), and stinging insects. For someone who has never met anything nastier than an enraged hamster it was a bit disturbing to be advised to make eye contact with the cougar, make yourself appear larger, and if attacked fight back. I have never taken my GreenHab readings so quickly.
We have a crew member who is suffering severely with lack of sleep and stress, and states that she is suffering from a temperature increase, but does not feel that medical treatment is required at this stage. That has meant that the EVA duties have been shared out amongst the other crew members and it is likely that the other duties assigned to them will be shared out soon. Mission Control will be kept updated, and the flight surgeon contacted if required.
From this I have taken part in two long EVA's today. I am getting better at handling the heat and had the pleasure of seeing Edwins robot in action today and creating our own little Eden. See the EVA reports. I am tired but happy, feeling I have achieved something today. What pleased me most was the fact that with the EVA's being hard, the generators failing and various other problems the crew are still in great spirits. Everyone on the EVA's have been enthusiastic and hard working and have pulled together to solve problems. I have to salute Edwin for his constant smiles and jokes, and with Jamon and Susmita to bounce off, the Hab resounds with laughter. Mars is a good place to be.
