Log Book for March 22, 2004
GreenHab Report
Richard Humphreys Reporting

Readings:

Time: 08:30
(South Vent fan operating)
Inside Temp: 74 degrees Fahrenheit / 23 degrees Celsius
Outside Temp: 70 degrees Fahrenheit / 21 degrees Celsius
Relative Humidity: 65%

Time: 12:00
(Both vent fans operating -- had not been on for long due to power problems)
Inside Temp: 110 degrees Fahrenheit / 43 degrees Celsius
Outside Temp: 96 degrees Fahrenheit / 36 degrees Celsius
Relative Humidity: 63%

Time: 20:00
(South Vent fan operating)
Inside Temp: 72 degrees Fahrenheit / 22 degrees Celsius
Outside Temp: 70 degrees Fahrenheit / 21 degrees Celsius
Relative Humidity: 60%

Maximum Temp: unreliable reading
(new thermometer in place, working out instructions)
Minimum Temp: unreliable reading
(as above)

(All measurements in degrees Celsius are calculated from the degrees Fahrenheit reading and are to the relevant number of significant figures.)

Normal chores in the GreenHab were performed on each of these occasions.

Information downloaded from datalogger with probe hanging in Tank #4. Information loaded onto hab computer.

Information downloaded from datalogger mounted on the centre beam in the GreenHab. Information loaded onto Hab computer.

Information downloaded from datalogger outside North door. Information downloaded onto Hab computer.

Water level was normal throughout the day. At 08:00 hours there was a good flow from tank #4 to Tank #5. At 12:00 hours there was a flow of 1 drip every 4 seconds. By 20:00 hours the flow was 1 drip every 14 seconds.

Both aerators are working, one is in Tank #2 and one in Tank #4.

There were minimal Suds in Tank #2.

All plants were sprayed with water on each visit, given double the usual amount.

The sump pump is connected to a timer which activates the system at 12:00 hours and 00:00 hours.

The TST tank is still being filled as required by the pump.

Water level in the plant buckets was about 7cm from the top at 08:30 hours. Water added to leave 1cm at top.

pH readings obtained from Tank #4. Reading showed a darker shade than the top reading of 8.4 on the freshwater scale, a comparative reading of exactly 8.4 on the saltwater scale.

Ammonia (NH3/NH+4) readings obtained from Tank #4. Measured at 0.25 ppm(mg/l) on the freshwater scale.

Nitrite (NO-3) readings obtained from Tank #4. Measured at 0.5 ppm(mg/l) on the freshwater scale.

Nitrate (NO-2) readings obtained from Tank #4. Measured at about 10 ppm(mg/l) on the freshwater scale. (About half way between the shades for 0 ppm and 20 ppm.)

A quarter of each plant type was added to Tank #4 following these readings.

The South (solar powered) vent fan is not blowing enough air to open the metal louver doors. It is blowing air out from the GreenHab in the right direction.

The black panel air vents over the doors were checked. The south side vent was opened half way. The panel on the North side vent is missing. Nothing has been put in place to replace this panel, so it is fully open. Both are screened inside the GreenHab.

The louvered dryer vents were fitted backwards, not allowing air into the GreenHab. I have reversed these vents. This does not look as aesthetic but they now work as they should.
