Commander's Log
Reece Lumsden Reporting
Today was our opportunity to be movie stars. All day today we were in the hands of Soctt Gill from August Films and his crew for the shooting of an upcoming documentary on Mars.
Jamon and Edwin awoke very early this morning to conduct an early EVA to capture pictures for Edwin's atmosphere and aerosol study. After returning at around 0815, Jamon hauled the remnants of the generator shelter (blown over in the strong winds last night) to the junkpile.
The crew awoke at around 0830, with Scott and his crew arriving at around 0900.
Right from the beginning we placed ourselves in the hands of Scott let him direct us given that we had received higher authority from the Mars Society to give them our full co-operation. There were a number of scenarios that Scott had planned for his documentary. These included:
Jamon, Heather and Edwin being used for some crew shots on the surface of Mars, climbing steep inclines and finding cyano-bacteria within Martian rocks.
Susmita, Richard and Reece: Susmita and Richard were used for shots of a crew filling up sandbags in the backdrop of a Martian sunset, as well as trying to make their way through a Martian sandstorm. Finally, all three were used to film a sequence of the crew retiring to a secure part of a spacecraft waiting out a period of radiation exposure (for example the type of exposure experience in a solar flare). Scott and his crew also conduced interviews with myself and Susmita on a wide range of issues relating to the eventual mission to and exploration of Mars.
The crew finished their filming at around 1900, after which they joined the crew for a relaxing drink or two.
Today was a definite bonus for the crew and I feel that they were energised by receiving outside conversational stimulus from Scott and his crew. They were very easy to get along with and we were somewhat sad to see them leave.
We are now going into the final day of our five day simulation. It is hard to believe that our rotation is coming to an end. It seems like we just arrived yesterday.
