Commander's Check-In
Alejandro R. Diaz Reporting

Crew Status: Members of Crew 27 are in good spirits, despite a second straight day of rain that prevented planned EVAs.

Daily Recap: Today was our fourth day of full simulation. Our schedule called for several EVAs to maintain the Remote Radio station and to perform ATV EVAs. However, we were hit, for a second straight day, with heavy rain and strong winds. As a consequence, our schedule was modified. The crew performed the daily Human Factors Experiment by taking the "Personal and Group Functioning Survey" and the Cogstate computerized test. We then completed several internal hab tasks throughout the day that included, in addition to our regular MDRS maintenance tasks, addressing the algae problem in the GreenHab, repair of the malfunctioning EVA backpack fan, EVA helmets optimization, repair of the MUSK observatory computer, and planting of seeds.

Additional Comments: The crew feels constrained by the rain because it is limiting our ability to perform EVAs. However, we have adapted very well to being confined inside the hab, and understand confinement is a real situation that Mars astronauts will have to adapt to as well. We keep ourselves busy throughout the day by repairing and maintaining different things. We also come up with our schedule for the next few days and with contingency plans.

Tomorrow's Plan: Tomorrow's schedule calls for an EVA to the Remote Radio Station and for EVAs with the utilization of the ATVs. If we continue to get rain tomorrow, we will continue to perform internal tasks inside the hab and planning for future EVAs.
