EVA Report
William Foltyn Reporting
Brief Summary: There were no EVAs today
EVA - Operations: Equipment upgrades and optimizations
Duration: Intermittent all day long
Weather: Partly cloudy to flash thunderstorms and heavy rain; Wind: Very Gusty 0 - 40KPH; 08C - 16C
Maximum distance from Hab: 0m
Participants: All of Crew 27
Equipment: Used any tools available in the Hab to get the projects done.
Route: All Crewmembers were confined to the pressurized infrastructure of the Hab
Objectives - Work Done: Objectives were to utilize the time that we had since the EVAs were cancelled. The weather hit us hard today. The morning started out promising and the crew was ready to go. However the unpredictable weather changed its mind, and sent charging across the southwest flats a torrent of rain and wind. While being battered with storms on an off all day, other plans and tasks were devised. EVA commander Foltyn and Commander Diaz agreed that the storms and the rain made EVAs too risky to attempt. So the standing order that came down was to organize, optimize, and rebuild. Following is a list of things, related to EVA that were accomplished:
- Helmets cleaned
- Radios organized
- Suits stored
- Nametags made
- Pack custom fitted
- Rebuilt pack 6
- Custom-built helmet - 6
- Optimized pack-6
- Replaced filters
- Cross checked GPS units
- Optimized charging lines
Lessons Learned:
- Equipment maintenance keeps you sharp and creative
- Coordinated crew members are very effective
- Philosophical discussions are the result of cabin fever.
- Super Crystals are still amazing 25 years later.
