Commander's Check-In
Alejandro R. Diaz Reporting
Crew Status: The crew continues to be very motivated as we enter the last few days of full simulation.
Daily Recap: Today was our ninth day of full simulation. In the morning, we received a visit from Travis Reed (Salt Lake City Associated Press Reporter). He arrived promptly at 9am and left at 1pm. The interview consisted of questions to the entire crew and a tour of the Hab, GreenHab, and generator facilities. The crew then proceeded with preparations and egressing of EVAs 18 and 19, which Mr. Reed was able to observe.
EVA-18 (McCarthy and Collins, along with Diaz as Habcom) was an ATV EVA. Its goal was to identify a passage that would connect Hubble Highway to Factory Bench via Coal Mine Wash. EVA-19 (Russell, Foltyn, and Wardlow, along with Diaz as Habcom) had the intent of measuring the cable between the Hab and the Remote Radio Station. For detailed information of these EVAs, refer to the EVA Report.
In addition to these EVAs, regular GreenHab and Hab maintenance tasks were completed, along with the continuing development of the GreenHab labeling task and the water schematic. At various times of the day, each crewmember completed the Human Factors Experiment by taking the "Personal and Group Functioning Survey" and the Cogstate computerized test.
Tomorrow's Plan: Tomorrow is our last day of full simulation. The crew plans to perform an additional ATV EVA, which will aim to reach Muddy Creek via the White Rock Reservoir. Time and weather permitting, the crew will also attempt other EVAs.
