Log Book for April 8, 2004
Engineering Report
James Russell & Peter Collins Reporting

Generator/Electricity:

China Special:
Voltage: 220
Hobbs meter reading: 698
We have been refueling "China Special" while it is still running.

Lil' Genny:
Today, we attempted to jump start the generator again. The ATV #1 battery and the old generator battery both were fully charged, but were not able to jump the generator. Several days ago, we had been able to start the generator with an ATV battery, so this second failure is surprising.

Estimated Grey Water Used: 24 gallons in last 24 hours (assumed 80%)

    Time: 09:00
    Inside Tank: 30 gallons
(Previous reading at 04/07/04: 40 gallons)

    Time: 20:00
    Inside Tank: 10 gallons

    Time: 20:10
    Inside Tank: 55 gallons

    HVAC: Nothing to report.

Transport: We attempted to drive the truck yesterday, but it did not start. We will try to jump start the truck on Saturday as tomorrow, Friday, is our last day of simulation.

Mars-Suits: Tested the new radio headsets today. They integrated directly with our existing radios. However, the headpieces extend 2-3" from the side of your head which makes it difficult to put on the helmet. Jim field tested the headgear and found the Push To Talk (PTT) button a little difficult to actuate when wearing the suit gloves. Of potential concern for future users is the volume dial located next to the PTT, which can be accidentally lowered.

Computers/Networking Infrastructure: Nothing new to report.
