Today: Normal chores in the GreenHab were performed: plants watered.

As Hab power was out again today, Greg M. and Kathleen switched the south fan and the aerator pumps to solar by plugging them into the solar inverter like yesterday. We had to reorient the panels in order to recharge the solar panel's battery and capture more energy.

Based on Crew 27's suggestions, we made a plant screen barrier for Tank #4 and covered the back half of the tank with plastic to lesson algae growth. We also placed a 5" diameter perforated pipe under the plastic covering of the Trickling Filter to allow for greater airflow (but as the 1-3" clearance above the top as suggested by Crew 27 was not achieved, we will try a better solution in the coming days).

Tank 4 is still low, but water is trickling in so we are hoping that this will right itself eventually. (Reminder, Tank 4 was depleted when the recirculation pump was accidentally left on to Peter's soil experiment setup following power coming back on yesterday). This water flows from Tank 4 through the rock area and into Tank1 to remove algae from the top of the tank. Close valve after use to avoid water siphoning back to Tank 4. We need to turn on the recycle pump to flush it with colder water to avoid overheating. Currently there are two water lettuces in there).

Open Issues:
Same, no action taken
  • TST Float Switch:
Crew 27 found the silver float switch, engineering will do this in the coming days, per instructions.

  • Tacking down loose wires:
Will be done in the coming days.

  • Yellow Laptop as part of HOBO logger system.
Status: The yellow laptop hab computer has some port malfunction which is preventing the HOBO download. During the HOBO testing, the baud rates were synchronized and correct port selected. The manual suggests that it might have been due to another program on the computer interfering with the Boxcar 4.3 program: Gus will evaluate it in the coming days.

  • Treatment system appears not to be removing nitrate:
We are currently evaluating Crew 27's assessment and proposed action for this issue (see report of 4/10)
