Log Book for March 6, 2007
Commander's Check-In
Veronica Ann Zabala-Aliberto Reporting

Crew Physical Status: The Crew is in good spirits. One of our younger Crew Members has a slight cough (mainly in the morning and in the evening) and is being treated with medication.

Time Departed/Returned from EVA: Departure: 1200 hrs Return from EVA: 1530 hrs

Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: Today the F.L.A.M.E. Crew participated in an "Out of SIM" EVA to Box Canyon in order to give the F.L.A.M.E. students an introductory course in "Geology on Mars and Earth". This is to help them understand the importance of scouting out habitable regions on Mars. The F.L.A.M.E. CDR lectured about the latest findings from Martian spacecraft and lander missions to The Red Planet and showed similar features found in Box Canyon to the F.L.A.M.E. crew. Some samples were brought back to the Mars Desert Research Station Science Laboratory so the students could learn how to clean, label and store their field samples. Our Educator plans on giving the students a quiz on what was shown to them today.

Plans for Tomorrow: Tomorrow we will conduct two EVAs. The CDR and the Executive Officer will be conducting their own EVAs in which certain members of the Crew will participate in. Sklar will be conducting a pedestrian EVA near the Hab and Zabala-Aliberto will be utilizing the ATVs to photo document any aeolian and fluvial changes that have occurred since F.L.A.M.E.'s last rotation near the already known concretion-bearing layers. The students will be doing their homework as well as participate in an EVA of their choice.

Report Transmission Schedule: Tonight F.L.A.M.E. will have the following Reports turned in by 2000 hrs: CDR Check-In, CDR Report, Engineering Report, Educator Report & EVA Report

Maintenance: Our Engineer and Educator removed the dishwasher in the kitchen to have more space for food preparation. The switch to import water into the water tank was not operational this morning so our Engineer is currently working on the issue.

EVA Narrative/Data/Interpretations: Today we took our last trip into Hanksville to get supplies before we go into full SIM this evening. We also took an "Out of SIM" EVA to Box Canyon to introduce the local geology to the F.L.A.M.E. students which is analogous to what we have observed from the Mars Exploration Rovers.

Inventory: Food supplies are sufficient. We are in need of no other items at this time except water which we hope to have fixed soon.

Miscellaneous: Today was a normal day on Mars.

Support Requested: As I write this CDR Check-In our water situation has not improved. There is an electrical malfunction with the water system in which we have less then 10 gallons of water for the remainder of the day and we still have not been able to wash our dishes from this morning or have useable water for the remainder of the day.
