EVA Report
Stacy Sklar Reporting

EVA-2:

Time: 15:25 - 17:30
Crew Members: Stacy Sklar, Grant Waller, Angelina Zabala, and Iahu-Anat
Site Location: Less then 1 km NW of the Hab
Transit Mode: Pedestrian

Objectives: To acquire more data for the Sink Hole Erosional Project within the Jurassic Morrison and to introduce our new Flame student to the fossils along Radio Ridge.

Lessons Learned: Not all sink holes are alike. If one thing does not work try something else.

Operational Issues: EVA-2 Zabala departed from the airlock by 14:45 just as they were leaving the power in the hab went out. Sklar was trying to deal with this issue (while working with the engineers) and trying to help the EVA team figure out their comm problems as well as the ATV problems. First we dealt with the hab power then we tried to deal with the comm problem. We even placed a new comm unit in the airlock, cycled it through, and that solution did not help. This made Sklar concluded that the PTT switch on the helmet was the cause of the comm problems. The next problem was the ATVs. We accelerated the suiting process for Engineer Waller which caused Grant to forget several items including his glasses.

Next, the ATV had a different plan for the team. Even with Grant's help all that could be done for the ATV was to drive in reverse no matter what gear it was in. The commander scrubbed the EVA but in order not to disappoint one of the Flame students Stacy suggested that both Grant and Angelina wait for Stacy and Iahu-Anat. As Stacy and Iahu-Anat were suiting up two new suit problems arose. One PLSS-3 was no longer blowing any air; therefore we replaced that unit with Zabala's PLSS so Iahu-Anat could go on EVA. After that problem we ran into another comm unit problem with helmet-5. Again the PTT button. So the following work on the EVA equipment will begin tomorrow. Replace PTT buttons on helmet-5 and-3. Clean out PLSS unit-3.

Note to Mission Support: We found two PTT buttons but will probably need more as this seems to be a recurring problem.
