Log Book for March 12, 2007
Commander's Check-In
Veronica Ann Zabala-Aliberto Reporting
Crew Physical Status: The Crew is somewhat tired and looking forward to greeting our the Dutch media today.
Time Departed/Returned from EVA: 1630 Departure - 1400 hrs
Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: Our Executive Officer, Sklar, took our Dutch visitors to Hab Ridge where they participated in a Full SIM EVA.
Plans for Tomorrow: Today CDR Zabala-Aliberto did not get to go on EVA but has high hopes of going on an early EVA tomorrow morning in search of concretion-bearing layers. The EVA will be conducted in our PEV known as Prometheus II. The F.L.A.M.E. students will participate in the EVA as well in order to get their final field investigations carried out so that they can create their PowerPoint presentations for their family, friends, school, etc. Sklar will also try to conduct an EVA as well. We may do an early evening EVA upon the Dutch Photographers' request. I am sure that our Engineers will be quite busy with both the GreenHab issues and that with our generator constraints.
Report Transmission Schedule: Tonight F.L.A.M.E. will have the following Reports turned in by 2000 hrs: CDR Check-In, CDR Report, Engineering Report, Educator Report, EVA Report, F.L.A.M.E. Student EVA Results by Angelina Zabala
Maintenance: Today our Engineers were ready to work on the GreenHab issues when we experienced problems with the generator shutting down (lasting no more than 10 minutes before shutdown). They noticed that the inverters were too hot and that there was a strong burning smell. Apparently, there was no current pushed into the inverter which goes to the Hab. There was an 80% rate change. It was recommended that the hertz be adjusted when anomalies occur. Please see the Engineer's Report later on tonight for further updates. Also, within the MDRS Science Laboratory, the right sink handle broke off. We will need another handle so we can install it before our rotation ends so the next MDRS Crew does not have to worry about it.
EVA Narrative/Data/Interpretations: EVA was mainly to show the wonders of the geology that surround the Mars Desert Research Station and to simulate what it would be like to conduct a full SIM EVA. Only the Executive Officer and two Dutch photographers participated in the EVA.
Inventory: We are still in need of paper towels. Many of the parts we need for the ATV's or for the GreenHab have been ordered.
Miscellaneous: Currently we have no water for the Hab. We are on a high conservation status as of 1400 hrs.
Support Requested: I already sent out an official request for Local Support's help regarding the generator and the lack of water in the Hab. I am still waiting for a reply.
