Log Book for April 5, 2007
Commander's Check-In
Chip Shepherd Reporting
Crew Physical Status: Excellent overall.
Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: Assisted NDX-1 team (out of sim) with their pressurized demonstrations. Experienced technical problems and aborted. Media from ABC-TV/Houston, Telemundo, and swiss documentary film director arrived, toured Hab, and interviewed the crew. Conducted an evaluation of emergency air quantity/location requirements for the Hab. Performed "EVA-2: Walkback Range Test (cont.)" this afternoon.
EVA Narrative/Data/Interpretations: Alex Diaz, Irene Schneider, and Marcus Medley performed EVA-2: Walkback Range Test (cont.). Weather is cooler today and it is expected they will complete the full 2 miles. Temperature, distance, and average speed are being recorded.
Time Departed/Returned from EVA: Departed 4:55 pm. Returned Expected at 7 pm.
Plans for Tomorrow: Assist NDX-1 team's second attempt in the field (will start very early in the morning). Media may return for this. SUNY-Buffalo students will arrive in the morning and we will assist them in their planned EVA tool tests, assuming their equipment is in order. Geology/Biology EVA will be conducted.
Report Transmission Schedule: Expect some reports to be sent closer to 10:00 pm tonight due to extended media stay and late hour of EVA completion.
Maintenance: Fresh water arrived. Added a pump to the exterior water supply tank. Now the refill process from the main supply tank to the secondary tank next to it takes minutes instead of hours.
Food/Essential Supplies Inventory: Good. We found steel wool downstairs under the lab sink and the NDX-1 team provided us with a few rolls of paper towels.
Miscellaneous: Media day has been a success. We broke out our Crew 61 shirts for the occasion.
Support Requested: Request a refill of gasoline for the generator. Still looking for a scale, and are planning to coordinate with local support to borrow one.
