Log Book for April 8, 2007
Journalist Report
Elizabeth Wolfe Reporting

The SUNY Buffalo students left before 6 am, but they woke up only Chip for goodbyes. I think they got a lot out of their short visit.

We had our first leisurely sleep-in for the whole crew (ok, Marcus had to get up and fix the power once, but he got at least 9 hours total). When we woke up, we found that Chip had left us all some chocolate Easter bunnies and Pieter Jan left us cream filled Belgian chocolate Easter eggs (zee best chocolaahht in zee vorld!).

We mulled the possibility of an EVA the entire day, but the intermittent wind and rain precluded it, although Alex got to roar around on the ATV in order to "collect data" for the EVA, whenever weather will allow it.

P.J. extended our "pressurized tunnel" border so minivans would stop barreling through, threatening to crush our lifelines. Marcus deftly installed a new water pump. Chip cleaned the ShopVac filter. We had our (hopefully final) trickle of Martian visitors (most of the 75 we've had the past three days are from the same family that camps out here each Easter, and total close to 160).

During one visit, a suspicious-looking couple of tourists got out of their pick-up truck with a tool box and just walked into our GreenHab without a word. I fetched Chip and he interrogated them. They insisted they were sent officially, and a few emails later we figured out it was a simple miscommunication, and they commenced working in the GreenHab with the smelly water hyacinths that process the stinky grey water.

We put on a movie to pass the rainy afternoon (a little "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" to cleanse the palate after "Borat"), and Irene cooked us a spectacular Easter dinner. Paul and Melissa buzzed around for a bit this evening gathering final supplies before they leave for FMARS in BFE Canada tomorrow. After a rainy, refreshing, low-key Easter, we are left contemplating another movie and what our lives will be like without any visitors the next week (perhaps our airlocks will stop being breeched every two hours!).
