Elizabeth Wolfe Reporting
Our late movie resulted in another late morning. We still got two EVAs done, which proves that we can get ourselves' in gear when we want. Both EVAs involved transport of an injured crewmember in suits. Guess who got to be the injured one? That's right, me, because I am a little girl. Sometimes I feel more like a housecat than a person. Big people just like to pick up little people, whether it is to put them in trash cans, throw them in the pool, or haul them around Mars. Given the option of helping carry one of the men here though, I think I'll stick with being a rag doll.
In the morning EVA, I was transported face down on a stretcher (because of the backpack). This is not pleasant, because your neck definitely isn't straight and breathing is more difficult. Also seeing the ground bobbing up and down is a little scary because you just *know* you are going to be dropped. But I didn't get dropped, and we wrapped the EVA up pretty quickly.
We had lunch, Chip shot down our Las Vegas trip, and everyone proceeded about their personal business. Irene and PJ went to Hanksville to drop off some snail mail. Apparently Chip found a dead rat in the grey water tank, but it sank before he could get it (I later fished it out and tossed it in with dinner, shhh...). And me, I slept. I do that sometimes. In another life I would be a cat. The reason I was still tired is because my room is about the only one with a heater vent, and I woke up to a sauna in the middle of the night while the rest of the Hab was around 55 degrees.
This evening we did our second EVA, where I once again collapsed dramatically. This time they cut a hole in the stretcher for the backpack, which was far more comfortable and ergonomically correct for the theoretically injured. The sky is also much nicer too look at. When you are cooped up in that suit, AND strapped to a board you have to go to your "happy place" so you don't start freaking out. I'm not claustrophobic, but obsess about it long enough and anyone will be. I learned this after my motorcycle wreck when they strapped me to the back board for 4 hours. I am the strapped down zen masta after that nonsense. Anyway, there was also a rig for the ATV to transport me and the stretcher. Seems a little sketchy, but our engineer Marcus is pretty talented and I got to look at the sky and not think about it the whole time. In the end, quite a success.
I cooked up some Chinese food for crew dinner and will commence with showering. We will probably watch a movie later. Tomorrow is the last day of sim, and is also Yuri's night and time to celebrate with the world!
