Log Book for April 12, 2007
Commander's Check-In
Chip Shepherd Reporting
Crew Physical Status: Excellent. Looking forward to Yuri's Night.
Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: Conducted EVA to test operational
procedures and aids for transporting two crewmembers knocked unconscious due to unexpected solar storm.
EVA Narrative/Data/Interpretations: Elizabeth and Irene were on team that simulated unconsciousness due to a simulated solar storm event. P.J. and Chip were on the response team; Elizabeth was retrieved using ATV and modified stretcher, and Irene was then retrieved using modified stretcher alone. Response time was recorded and the process was documented with photos and video.
Time Departed/Returned from EVA: 11:30 departure, 1:45 return.
Plans for Tomorrow: Write summary reports. Measure weight of suit components. Conduct detailed suit inspection. Begin season shutdown procedures.
Report Transmission Schedule: Expect reports on-time, since Yuri Night celebration cannot begin until all reports are in.
Maintenance: It is currently raining. We have set out the buckets, because the Hab tends to leak in a couple of places. GreenHab water flow was temporarily interrupted. Marcus got it running again, although his own pump project is giving him problems.
Food/Essential Supplies Inventory: Great shape.
Miscellaneous: Although Zubrin said in "Mars on Earth" the crews he observed tended to watch madcap comedies to unwind, I have observed that this crew likes to select science fiction dramas ("Red Planet", "Aon Flux") and the comedies ("Mr. Bean", "Shawn of the Dead", "Borat") have not gone over nearly as well. Different strokes...
Support Requested: We want to make sure we prepare the MDRS well for the summer. We have sent a list of questions to Mission Support and the Engineering Team.

Commander, MDRS Crew 61
