Science Report
Graham E. Lau Reporting

Graham E. Lau, Crew Astrobiologist/Botanist
Mars Desert Research Station, Crew 65

There’s not too much to report on the science end tonight. We’re still
working most of our engineering problems, so the science is a bit
delayed.

The inventory for the shipment of geology and field equipment we
received has been relayed to Mission Support. We are still looking for
multiple shipments of lab equipment to arrive while we are on mission.
I did not have time to clean the science lab today. When I do get the
lab a little cleaner, I’ll start considering where there is room for
the incoming science equipment, and I’ll try to work with Mission
Support to find the best way to set up the new equipment in the lab.

Luis and I went scouting today. We found several droppings from
Martian cows along the way. Morgan and I will try to schedule an EVA
during our mission to retrieve some of this wonderful stuff for the
compost pile… Mmmmnnnn, Martian cow dung…

I’ve been looking over the geology references here. It’s too bad no
one’s compiled a nice, short intro to the geology near the MDRS for
non-geologists. The references are pretty helpful though. I’d like to
take an EVA or two to inspect some of the local features. Some of the
books in the Hab are really helpful in figuring out the geologic
history of this area.

Morgan recycled some of the soil from the non-growing plants today and
planted some new crops. We are looking forward to possibly including
some of the GreenHab plants in one or two of our meals. There won’t be
much, but it would still be pretty awesome to eat what has been grown
here.

Space!
G Love
