Project:
Biology -- Water quality analysis in a Martian environment: LC50
Daphnia magna exposed to GreenHab effluent
Personnel:
Cheryl Wartman
Operations Data Collected:
Methodology was reviewed and laboratory space was cleaned for exposure
study. I realized on the EVA yesterday that there are areas with snow
and ice. This could be gathered with soil to do a water extraction
from soil and subsequent exposure. This will have to wait until the
methodology is tested with the GreenHab water, which must wait on the
arrival of Daphnia magna.
Received 1500 mL beakers today so I was able to begin set up for
daphnia arrival. Water temperature from tap was taken and test kit was
found for water analysis which will be completed tomorrow.
Technical/Equipment Issues:
Water test kit did not include a test for water hardness. Samples will
be taken for analysis at a later date.
Discussion:
Daphnia magna will be allowed to acclimate for 24 hours prior to
exposure studies. Effluent will be collected and diluted for first
exposure. A colony of daphnia will be established in the laboratory.
