Commander's Check-In
John Thaler Reporting

Commander's Check-In Report

February 8, 2008

John Thaler

Crew Physical Status:
All in one piece. Or rather in eight whole pieces. I (John) exercised
a bit much today with unpleasant results but have recovered fully.

Time Departed/Returned from EVA:
EVA 10:
Time Departed: 10:12
Time Returned: 13:45

EVA 11:
Time Departed: 15:05
Time Returned: 18:06

Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results:
EVA 10: Goal was to dig three holes for geology project, but only
managed two.

EVA 11: Provide scenes for Japanese documentary and practise Field
Documentation Methodology (FDM). A secondary goal was to summit Phobos
Peak.

EVA Data/Interpretations:
EVA 10: Should budget more time for geology EVA if cross-training is
desired.

EVA 11: Satisfied Japanese media team with scenarios.

Hab Maintenance:
The engineering team worked all day on troubleshooting the old green
ATV and managed to get it running. I (John) monitored the GreenHab
while Nasim undertook two EVAs today. Perry and Cheryl starred in the
Japanese documentary. Half the crew was able to use FDM on an
exploratory EVA.

Report Transmission Schedule:
Reports already submitted:
EVA 10 (Kerry)
Special Science Report (Arthur)

Reports to be submitted by 19:15:
Engineering (Perry)

Reports to be submitted by 20:30:
Commander Report (John)
Special Science Report (Kerry)
Special Science Report (Cheryl)
Journalist Report (Perry)
EVA 11 Report (Anna)

Plans for Tomorrow:
We will get our picture taken by the Japanese film crew's helicopter at
7:45 am.
Kerry will begin his official data collection on a morning EVA since
his equipment is fully validated.
The other half of the crew will use FDM on an exploratory EVA in the
afternoon.

Inventory:
Inventory hasn't changed significantly in the past few days and remains
pretty much the same today so to spice things up a bit here's an
inventory of two of our overstocked items: 36 rolls of toilet paper & 8
packages microwave popcorn which don't pop very well (tested last
night).
