Special Science Report
Arthur Guest Reporting
Project:
MDRS Smart Small Logistics Container Research Project
Personnel:
Arthur Guest & Phillip Cunio (Crew 67)
Operations Data Collected:
Kerry and I discussed ways that the tracking ability of the logistics
container could be used for his geology work. We talked about tracking
the usage and storage of his tools and also using the system to track
his sample bags. By labeling, tagging, and storing the sample bags in
the container before his EVAs and then placed back in the container
afterwards, time stamps could be created to match certain sample bags
to certain EVAs.
Afterwards, I tested the extra tags we purchased for the mission in
order to begin adding the geology equipment into the container. I also
examined the system to allow usage with the constraints of our limited
internet capabilities.
Technical/Equipment Issues:
Unfortunately, there appears to be a incompatibility between the tags
we purchased and the system's software. The tags all show up in the
software as the same number and therefore would rewrite each item as it
was created.
I believe I have found a way to have the system send information out to
the server while I do not have to download anything from the internet,
therefore not affecting our internet usage limits. The only downside is
that I will not be able to track the item usage on site, but Phillip
will be able to do this from Cambridge MA.
Discussion:
I have emailed sources at MIT and Aurora Flight Systems to determine
the best fix for the tag problem. I should hear back tomorrow.
I will continue to monitor the internet usage situation and work with
Phillip to ensure continued monitoring of the system.
Questions for RST:
No questions at this time. (Sorry for the delay of this report, I sent
it earlier today, but it does not seem to have gone through).
