Commander's Report
John Thaler Reporting

Today was a relaxed day. It began late as everyone had the choice to
sleep in or have personal time in the morning. Some chose to work on
small projects around the Hab, others worked on things for their work
or school back on Earth. This restful morning was helpful in
rejuvenating the crew at the half-way point in our mission and
increasing crew morale. Since today was our eighth day of the mission
we have restarted the rotation of meals from the 7 day emergency freeze
dried food packs that we are eating. This may or may not have an
effect on crew morale -- we'll have to wait and see. The afternoon
continued in the same relaxed vein with only one EVA out to Kerry's
survey site where he is sampling at 18 holes spread across the Mid
Ridge Planitia. Perry spent the afternoon investigating the water
heater and the diesel tank to see what is needed to solve those issues.
Cheryl working on integrating the new science equipment into the lab
and she also baked us some delicious ginger cake and bread.
The rest
of the crew worked on personal projects.

This evening we will have Kerry's presentation about sedimentary
structures and exosedimentology.

Tomorrow we will go back to our regular schedule of sending out EVAs in
the morning and afternoon. In addition to Kerry's daily geology EVA we
will also have our first biology EVA to collect samples for the
extremophile project.
