Commander's Report
John Thaler Reporting

Today we got back on our regular schedule. While Perry got a chance to
accompany Kerry on his daily geology EVA the rest of us got to pester
Cheryl with questions about statistics for our respective projects.
Some small work got done on the GreenHab systems through cooperation
between Nasim, Anna and Cheryl. We had a split lunch today with Anna,
Cheryl and I eating early so that we could leave on EVA as soon as the
first EVA had returned. The extremophile EVA to Lith Canyon was a
great success both in terms of samples collected and lessons learned.
Next time we will have to send a better lighter that can handle high
winds while we flame sterilize the collection instruments. In the
afternoon the crew rested and Perry worked a bit on the water heater.
This evening we've been figuring out the logistics of tomorrow's EVAs
and we're also working on documenting our mission experience with a
short movie that can be used for public outreach and for us to watch
when we're reminiscing about our days here on Mars.

This evening we will have Mic's presentation about legged robots,
specifically his galloping quadruped robot which he is building at
McGill University in Montreal.

Tomorrow we will attempt to use our simulated pressurized rover to
explore Factory Bench which is above Skyline Rim. This EVA will
include sampling for the extremophile project. Kerry will also perform
his usual geology EVA and we may be able to also send an extremophile
collection EVA to Lith Canyon again. In the morning the engineers will
try to level an area for a new battery bank. We'll also have a
reporter visiting us during the day so we'll be busy showing her the
sights and experiences of MDRS.
