Commander's Report
Randall Shelaga Reporting
Crew 67 has arrived at MDRS, at least in part! As I write this report
we await the arrival of our last two crewmembers, Phillip Cunio
(Researcher) and Zahra Khan (Surface Exploration Systems Engineer).
With their arrival, the crew will be complete and ready to start their
rotation.
Boot Camp starts tomorrow, a hearty breakfast of freeze dried eggs,
Tang and for the few coffee steels the crew for their first Pedestrian
EVA to the new environment of analogue Mars. The crew will be
introduced to the Sim Suits and ATVs preparing them for future
Exploration and Science training to continue through the rotation.
Today was an excellent first experience for the crew. Crew 66
(Expedition Delta) made us feel welcome and handed over a fully
functional, well maintained station. We want to thank Commander Thaler
and his crew for all of their efforts and work, the benefits of which
we reap.
But truly, it is time for Crew 66 to return to their earth-bound
endeavours, as conversations echoed of personal jokes and friendly
cajoling. The last words heard from Commander Thaler and his crew
centred around non-freeze-dried food and pop before the four-hour trek
back to Salt Lake City and homeward from there.
Officially Crew 67 assumed responsibility for MDRS at 12:45,
17-Feb-2008. Ut Mars per erudio!
