Heather Allaway

Project:
Protection by the Regolith

Personnel:
Heather Allaway

Operations Data Collected:
Pedestrian EVA to the base of Skyline Ridge. 2 samples were collected
from separate locations. Helped today by Aravind and Cass
Sample 2: evaporite sample from a pool at the base of a mound at the
base of Skyline Ridge.
12 S Easting: 0515683 Northing: 4251060 Elevation: 1409
Sample 3: evaporite sample from the side of a dried stream up an incline
at the base of Skyline Ridge.
12 S Easting: 0515542 Northing: 4251049 Elevation: 1421
One sample was collected for the special project organized through
Shannon.

Technical/Equipment Issues:
Coring equipment and augers supplied by Shannon located in Geology
area.
Autoclave failed twice today during test runs on unwrapped instruments.

Discussion:
Continue sampling. The auger borrowed from the UofS worked the best do
to the high moisture content of the soil. Without the use of the
autoclave sampling becomes wasteful and destructive to the local
environment.

Questions for CSO:
Any hints to trouble shoot fixes for the autoclave would be
appreciated.
