Commander's Report

05 March 2008

Veronica Ann Zabala-Aliberto

This morning everyone woke up when they were supposed to. It was a
quiet morning while everyone had breakfast. The F.L.A.M.E. students
started their usual morning coursework and finished most to all of
their assignments that their Educators back on Earth had assigned them.
It looks like they will finish three weeks of work in roughly a week
and will be in need of more assignments from their Educators. One
thing that I have noticed is that the children, with less distraction,
get more of their school work done and focus more on their studies.
With the guidance of their F.L.A.M.E. Educator, they are able to get
more work done in less time. After their studies they went down to the
first floor and conducted their physical education activities and ran
on the treadmill for five minutes.

Pertaining to Engineering, it was a busy day. We cannot fill our
potable water until mid afternoon because the water is frozen until the
surface heats up from the sun. In the morning we get as much dish
washing done as possible and have to finish the remaining dishes just
before dinner. Last night, three of our Crew members took showers. We
may need to wait another day to take showers for the rest of the Crew
as the potable water pipes are frozen and very little water is
currently being refilled.

For the last two nights we have been very busy and have not had the
opportunity to watch our movie. We have high hopes to watch it tonight
once we try to fill up our water tank. Other than that, it has been a
normal day on Mars.

I must say that with us doing what we are doing up here, we are
capturing the imagination of our childhood. It is my hope that our
efforts be recognized as an important step towards human space
exploration that is inspired by magnificent martian landscapes and new
scientific horizons.
