EVA #5 Report

Time:
Departed 16:35; Returned 18:30

Crew Members:
Executive Officer, Executive Officer in Training, Chief Engineer,
Security Officer

Site Location:
Hab Ridge

Transit Mode:
Pedestrian; return via guideline past Musk observatory.

Objectives:
1) Further exploration of Hab Ridge
2) Further training for Chief Engineer in geological field research
tools and methods

We spent a few hours exploring the sinkholes and fossils on Hab Ridge
and took some measurements and samples.

EVA today used suits 3,5,S1,S2 and packs 1,4,5,6. We found our Security
Officer was able to don a full EVA suit for the first time today, but
he experienced some difficulties due to the weight and fit of the pack.

Executive Officer is generally happy with the new S2 suit, but would
prefer pockets (especially on the sides).

Lessons Learned:
EVA teams should ensure suits fit properly without discomfort before
leaving the airlock. Our Security Officer will likely need to return to
using a biosuit in future EVAs.
