Journalist's Report
Sean Blackman Reporting
At GA Tech, it’s Spring Break. Everywhere, it’s Saturday. Yet for some odd reason, we woke up earlier today than any other morning. Maybe it was courtesy for the returning photographers that arrived at sunrise, maybe it was for an existential morning, but more likely it was the promise of free coffee and Danishes from the photographers that gave us lethargic college students the motivation to arise from our slumber. Real cream at last (and by “real” I mean not powdered). Besides, there’s nothing better than a nap that starts before 0900. At least that was the plan, but after the excitement of fresh caffination, we found it somewhat hard to go back to sleep.
Here’s a shout out to all the “non-morning people” out there; it is truly amazing how much you can get done before noon when your day starts three hours earlier. So much, that today we felt it necessary to put off doing real engineering work until after lunch just to make the day seem shorter. This turned out to be a bad idea since boredom quickly ensued, and a game of Google-A-Crew-Member quickly came about. If you’ve never played this game before, Crew 69 highly discourages it…I am now thoroughly convinced that nothing good can come from the Internet.
In any case, the afternoon engineering work was wildly successful. I mean like Rocky fighting the Russian successful. We completely fixed the GreenHab, and now have a fully functioning trickle-filter (water constantly flows from one tank to another filled with vegetation to filter the water)! While this may sound like a small feat, let us assure you it is truly a triumph. Tulika started an experiment measuring our comfort level while climbing different inclines on various soil types, Dan has his Wind Turbine almost ready to go, and Elisha’s Mars Rover is about to roll out the door. So, overall the day was very successful.
As such, we must celebrate. In observance of Easter and childhood memories (and in absence of any real eggs), we painted egg-shaped rocks in various shades of pastel red, green, and white. A truly bonding experience. And the night came with another special surprise, as today is also Holi, the Festival of Colors in India, and Tulika made the Crew a traditional Indian meal (though she is forcing me to say she had only limited resources at her disposal). The only thing left to do is to hide those Easter eggs for tomorrow…I mean Easter rocks…I mean painted Easter Mars eggs.
Crew 69 out!
