Commander's Check-In Report
March 26, 2008
Emily Colvin
Crew Physical Status: Several of us are sore, and the crewmember's knee problem is back with a vengeance. But we're on top of things, and going to email the doctor who has agreed to support us in Tam's absence.
Time Departed/Returned from EVA: EVA 8: Departed: 1515 Returned: 1651 EVA 9: Departed: 1907 Returned: See EVA report when it comes in - they're still finishing up.
Brief Narrative of Field Mission Results: EVA 8: Drove as far northwest up toward Hubble Highway as possible - there looks to have been a great deal of change in the area with the flooding. EVA 9: Attaching guy lines to the structure for the turbine.
EVA Data/Interpretations: EVA 8: We had radio coverage, even in Snoshti Canyon, although we had to switch to high power. We did not see a way to continue to Hubble Highway - I think the flooding widened and deepened an existing ditch. EVA 9: Again, see the report since they aren't back in yet. But it looks nice out the window.
Hab Maintenance: Work on the GreenHab is continuing, and is really looking good. The difference between theoretical and applied engineering? Blown fuses.
Report Transmission Schedule: Engineering will be at the beginning of the window, with the commander's report, the journalist report, the HSO report, and the EVA report from Dan for the work on the turbine. There will be some pictures going out of the GreenHab lifeforms.
Plans for Tomorrow: Tomorrow is our last day of Sim, and I believe a media visit. We'll probably head towards Candor Chasma, because I want a picture of myself at Colvin's Cove, and I'm sure there will be some more EVA activity around the Hab area, working on the turbine.
Inventory: Thus far on our list of things to recommend to C70 is we have a cover for stuff in the microwave and possibly a turntable (it has some spectacular hot spots) and paper towels (you'll want at least 7 or 8 rolls). There will also need to be some PTT buttons shipped out this way - some of those buttons are on their last legs, or have been soldered and electrical taped to keep their last legs attached. We have a couple of replacements that we are going to install.
Support Requested: I would love to get an idea of what time to expect the media guest tomorrow.
Miscellaneous: It looks like the subsurface radiation study isn't going to happen right now - the corer is not wide enough, and I hadn't realized that an impact drill was used at FMARS. I've taken some surface readings, and I'll take some more and see what they look like.
