Science Report: Biochemistry

Today we (Celine and Jan) had an EVA to test how to perform the sterile
halophile sample collection procedure in Sim. Gloves and EVA suites
make this very hard but it is possible – even though we may have to
break sim (take off gloves) or build a gadget to be able to maintain
sterile technique while opening and closing centrifuge tubes. We have shot
a short “training video” on sterile sample collecting, which we will
edit and use to instruct the rest of the crew after explaining the
required steps out of sim.

We are still unsure what to do with samples once collected but are
expecting buffer recipes and instructions on that soon as the
communication problem that had plagued us earlier seems to have been
resolved. We are hopeful that we can make a real contribution to the
RSL project.
