EVA #17 Report

April 22, 2008

Henrik Hargitai

Time:
DEPART 1300
RETURN 1630

Crew Members:
Boros-Oláh M., Muhi A, Hargitai H., Tepliczky I.

Site Location:
Close vicinity of the Hab; Erica's Hill

Transit Mode:
On foot / ATV

Objectives:
In the vicinity we have made a science copying Gustav Courbet's "Rock
Breakers" painting in space suits. Then we played the Little Prince,
sheltering a precious little white petal flower under a plastic globe
(from a helmet).
Then we got onto ATV's and went to Erica's Hill to deploy the rover Husar
2d. The connection was perfect with the Hab, even from this c. 700
distance. We made some sampling experiments and returned. Then we
went to take some pictures of the Fire Hydrant, of which we had the
photo from 2006. We have found minor changes, just as in the case of
T-Rex Canyon, where interestingly only minor changes were found (except
for more sand and less vegetation)

Lessons Learned:
- One ATV could not start near Kissing Camel Range (it did not get to
neutral) so it had to be rescued by rope - arriving home it started.
- During the EVA preparation for fixing the suit at the waist, we have
used a string instead of Scotch tape. It looks much better and is
recyclable (can be used many times)
