What’s the MDRS all about? For Crew 81 it has been filled with fun Mars analog experiences, scientific explorations, late night discussions and story sharing, rain and desert winds, canyons walls, spliced rocks, extreme landscapes, and beautiful sunsets and sunrises…

Crew 81 has had a great journey here on analog Mars. Weathering the ways of spacesuit exploration in a foreign land, we have all gained invaluable experience.

Crew 81 is ending the grand 81st rotation and last rotation of the eighth season of MDRS. We completed Hab shutdown today, with the exception of a few remaining tasks which will take place in the morning.

None familiar with the others specialty here, each crew member was able to teach and learn from another. We enjoyed challenges and laughs about keeping the system working. The MDRS is a fully operational system. Once people inhabit it-- all systems flow. The Crew is directly involved in the operation of the Hab. And, in a way, the Hab depends on the Crew to be in good condition.

Crew 81 efficiently and effectively completed the Mission goals: Conduct a safe mission; complete all scientific investigations and tasks on schedule; and
close the Hab down in good working order for the next season.

Crew 81 is grateful to have had the opportunity to work here at MDRS. We had a wonderful experience. Thank you to MDRS, Mission Support and local support!!
