Site Location:
Canton Cave intended, but reached only Half Circle Ridge


Transit Mode:
ATV and Pedestrian


Objectives:
1)Reach Canton Cave

2)Collect biological samples [rocks and/or soil that putatively contain
extremophiles and/or endoliths] from the cave and shadowy regions of
the canyon walls.


Lessons Learned:
1) The roads were covered in snow and we made a wrong turn on
Copernicus and Brahe Highway. I used only the topo map for navigation
and we ended up a little of track. Our final destination was Half
Circle Ridge instead of Canton Cave. For very specific locations [like
caves for eg] GPS with the specific way point should be used.

2) Rocks and soil were collected from the walls of the canyon.
Biologist should make clear to the crew members that are going out on
EVAs with the objective of collecting biological samples should be
prepared to explore the area and allow for a bit extra time.
