EVA #17 Report

February 3, 2010

Brian Shiro

Time:
13:07 - 17:26

Crew Members:
Brian Shiro, Darrel Robertson, Luis Saraiva

Site Location:
on Radio Ridge southwest of the Hab where it intersects with the
Kissing Camel Range (aka: "Dragon's Head")

Transit Mode:
rovers

Objectives:
1) Survey the intended profile for the seismic experiment.

2) Working southwest towards northeast, take seismic refraction and
reflection data using the geophone land streamer system.

3) Collect video and more geotagged images.

Lessons Learned:
1) Everything on Mars takes 10 times longer than one expects. We need
a lot more time to complete the seismic survey.

2) When hauling heavy equipment with the rovers, large boxes must go on
the back rather than the front rack. They interfere with steering in
the front and can't be secured as well.

3) For rover EVAs, don't forget the arm mirror.

4) Toughbook laptop screens are nearly impossible to see outdoors
through EVA suit helmets.
