MDRS Operations Documentation - Current
The Living Operations Documents
MDRS uses Living Documents which grow and change to reflect the improvements to procedures and equipment at the MDRS HAB. During any specific crew rotation, hardware and systems updates may occur and operations may be modified or developed. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each crew to review the Operations Documentation and provide updates where needed. Please modify the MS Word Version of the document in need of updating with "Track Changes" enabled, saving it with a yyyy-mm-dd added at the end of the file name (ie "Opsman-2007-01-31.doc"), so we can keep track of the contributions in the order they are received. Then send a final copy to Mission Support and the Chief Documents Editor via email file attach per the instructions within each manual three days before the end of the rotation so that editorial updates can be made and the document can be published to the web for the incoming crew rotation to study.
MDRS Mission Rules
A Living Document Initiated during the Second Crew Rotation
This document provides a framework and list of guidelines for the MDRS. It is designed to support the Mars Society's field operations priorities in order of decreasing importance: Safety, Simulation, Science and Comfort. Based on the concept of current real space flight - "Flight Rules", it provides guidelines for the establishment of a growing and evolving operational paradigm designed to simulate and ultimately provide the necessary lessons which will lead to those operations that would support actual missions to Mars. These guidelines are further designed to provide a constructive and conservative approach to operations; Yet, the users of such guidelines are free to interpret, adopt and even remove them if such action does not deter from mission (both real-time and simulated) safety and success.
